Hello, I'm
woking on cleaning up my data files folder, and was wondering how I
can get my mods to show up in alphabetical order on my mod list in
the splash screen. I'm having a difficlt time looking through all of
them, and need to get them in alphabetical order. Thanks in advance.

use testool to
change the timestamp on the esps. The splash screen lists them in
load order. earliest timestamp first, latest last.
Personally
If I were you, I'd leave well alone. Sometimes load order can be
critical, and by that I don't mean it passes snide comments on your
wallpaper.

Thanks for the
info. I forgot that it changes load order. Since that's the case I
will NEED to change it. I just re-installed all my mods and their
not in the right order now.

There was an
old thread, Clean Plugins , where this was asked and
well-answered: regret that I cannot locate it
now.
Essentially, you can rename your mods to suit yourself,
some folk do, alphabetically or by category. (Seems to me Jara
proposed that latter solution.) Then they will sort as you
wish.
As I understand it, Morrowind looks for the files, not
the mod name when it runs so you do not mess your game by doing
this. Just make sure if you rename, that you check the newly titled
label and uncheck the old in the Data Files screen and, of course ,
do not accidentally try to load both. And accept that update
patches may need some help finding a predecessor version, I think:
not sure about that one.

Yes, Ronin
dear... you remembered rightly. I was the one with the overwhelming
compulsion to rename mods & insanely organize them by catagory.
-laughs-
----------------------------------------
A
couple of things to remember...
Renaming mods shouldn't cause
any issues. As a general rule, I don't rename .esms... just esps. I
don't think it would cause any problems, but I like to be careful.
And frankly, it's just easier to have them all grouped at the top of
the DF list.
Renaming doesn't automatically organize them in
your Data Files list. They should be resaved in the CS (or by some
other timestamp altering program) in the order you want them.
In my Data files folder, I rename them by catagory, just to
make them easier to find. Official, armor, clothing, quests, tweaks,
misc, visuals, etc... are just some of the cataogries I
use.
example:
Better
Heads.esm Bloodmoon.esm Book Rotate
v5.02.esm Morrowind.esm Tribunal.esm Official -
Area_Effect_Arrows.esp Official -
EBQ_Artifact_beforeTwinLamps.esp Official -
Entertainers.esp Armor - Divine_domina_1.esp Armor -
Ice_Glass_Cuirass.esp Armor - KoT - Akatosh.esp Armor -
Venymora_intro_v1p0.esp Balance -
Dodge_Mod_Enhanced-LD_Tribunal.esp Balance -
Thief_Experience_Overhaul-1.3b_Tribunal_Combined.esp Clothing -
AV_fem_shirts.esp Clothing -
IceBradyRobeReplacerMw.esp Clothing -
Lillias_Robes_v1.0.esp Dialog -
Persuasion_Response_v4.esp Dialog - VGreetings.esp Fix -
PotionSorter.esp Misc - Legionnaire's Signet.esp Misc - The
regulars - Sitting NPC's v2.02.esp Misc -
Weapon_Wielding_Mannequins.esp Quest - Guar_Rescue.esp Quest -
Join_All_Houses.esp Quest -
Juniper's_Twin_Lamps_1.1-Tribunal.esp Quest - BQC-Ver
2.5_afterTwinLamps.esp Official -
Firemoth_afterBQC.esp Visuals - Gardeners of
Morrowind.esp Visuals - Key Replacer Trib & BM.esp Visuals
- Tat_NordFemales.esp Visuals -
Vivec_Replacement_v_1.00.esp
Notice how a couple appear out
of order? I saved them intentionally in that order, and renamed
them, so I wouldn't forget where they should be.
You can
still put mods in any renaming order you choose, and avoid load
order conflicts, by merely saving those mods near the end in the
appropriate order. Or... make a new 'z' catagory.
example:
z - EBQ_Artifact_beforeTwinLamps.esp z -
Juniper's_Twin_Lamps_1.1-Tribunal.esp z - BQC-Ver
2.5_afterTwinLamps.esp z - Firemoth_afterBQC.esp
Be
very careful about checking for mod dependencies. If you change a
mod's name, you MUST resave any dependent mod with the new mod's
name, or you'll have issues with the dependent mod.
I hope
that helps... And I hope even more that I didn't totally confuse
anyone. -grins- It's an insane extra bit of unnecessary busywork...
but it makes me happy.. and I can FIND things!

I was so
impressed with this scheme that I strted doing it myself for my
latest new game. I alos decided that I'd give each category a unique
starting letter, just to aid in recognition.
My categories
are
armor body cities dungeons fx and
magic garb houses itamz landscape mine npcs quest sundries tweak weapons zoology
I
store my mods in separate folders coresponding to those names. Each
folderis represented by a unique icon. The next step is to change
the icons on the individual esp files to match the folder icon.
Just
something to do on when the insomnia kicks in.
