VGreetings and Unofficial Morrowind Patch conflicts: potential solution
      #2608180 - 05/22/04 02:43 PM

Does anyone know if the author of VGreetings (TheOtherFelix) is still modding and plans to continue working on this mod? From the readme it seems he intended to do additional work on the mod, but I was curious if anyone knew if that was still the case.

The reason that I ask is that I've noticed a number of conflicts between Unofficial Morrowind Patch and VGreetings. Nothing super serious, but there are a number of cases where VGreetings "temporarily" disabled some voice entries which were apparently to be fixed later, and Unofficial Morrowind Patch subsequently fixed these separately.

I've been spending a bit of time going through and tweaking my personal copy to address some of these conflicts. If there's going to be another version of VGreetings on the horizon I'm not going to go overboard, as many of the conflicts would probably be resolved in a future version. However, if VGreetings is effectively "final" and there's some interest in the topic I wouldn't mind writing up some documentation about what I did to address the conflicts, pending some testing I would need to do on my end first.

OK, I've finished working my way through the conflict report and believe I've found resolutions for most of the conflicts between VGreetings and Unofficial Morrowind Patch. The conflicts can be loosely grouped into three categories:

1) Voice records which were "temporarily" disabled by VGreetings because they lacked definitions of conditions and were therefore preventing many other voice records from playing. Some of these, but not all, were addressed by Unofficial Morrowind Patch by adding reasonable conditions for them.

2) There are several cases where VGreetings adjusts the conditions for voice records which are time sensitive, e.g. "Good evening". Unofficial Morrowind Patch also references some of these records, but doesn't tweak the time conditions.

3) Quite a few cases where Unofficial Morrowind Patch adjusts the spelling or syntax of subtitles in records which are also referenced by VGreetings. These don't really matter unless you play with subtitles activated.

Of these, the first category is probably most significant if you want to be able to hear all of the voice records. For the second category, simply loading VGreetings after Unofficial Morrowind Patch should probably give you best results, which isn't a problem since VGreetings is a .esp and UMP is a .esm file. For the final category, again it doesn't really matter unless you play with subtitles activated.

I believe the resolution for the first category would be to just delete the "disabled" records in question from VGreetings, so those from Unofficial Morrowind Patch will be active. I haven't had an opportunity to test this out throughly yet, however. The voice records in question are the following:

In VGreetings-Idle.esp:

INFO 725228951789219466 ; Idle
NAME [Wide yawn]

In VGreetings.esp:

INFO 8329170111845414766 ; Hello
NAME =All right. Go ahead.

INFO 2901987372682720521 ; Hello
NAME =Is it really necessary that we talk?

INFO 1885024609269049462 ; Hello
NAME =Well, I'm listening. So go ahead.

INFO 15111159132569367 ; Hello
NAME =Well, what is this about?

INFO 1109021225303145040 ; Hello
NAME =Go ahead.

Note that the only reason to address these conflicts is if you run both VGreetings and Unofficial Morrowind Patch and want to minimize the conflicts between the mods while maximizing the number of voice records which actually play in game. If that's not important to you, or if you don't run both mods together then there's no real need to make these changes.
